Brief Hiatus

There are only so many photos that I can take while holding my crappy camera out in front of my face, so this little experiment is going on hold until my new tripod arrives, which will hopefully be later this week.

In the meantime, here is a SP that I took a few weeks ago at Philadelphia's Magic Garden.

Halloweenie

Halloween used to be my favorite holiday. I still love it but I rarely do anything anymore as most of my friends don't seem to care about it and it's depressing to celebrate Halloween by yourself. Anyway, tonight, Jess and Ritchie are coming over and we're going to have some burgers and either watch a Simpsons Treehouse of Horror marathon (Aaron's choice) or Game 3 of the World Series (my choice).

This self portrait was taken on my 4th story deck. That is the glorious city of Philadelphia behind me. GO PHILS!

The Bird is Big

My coworker Ken is 6 foot 8 and wears his Big Bird costume to work every year on Halloween. Then he walks around the office posing for photos with everyone. I look slightly manic and my chin is pretty Leno-esque in this photo. Maybe I can say that I was Jay Leno for Halloween.

I ordered a tripod

But it's not here yet. So in the meantime, I have to continue posting unflattering photos that I took with my phone. Thank Dog for Picnik's Cinemascope tool. Behind me you can kind of see some of the junk I have behind my desk at work. Like my butt-pirate picture and the lantern that Lisa P. gave me .

On the Bandwagon

I’m not a sports fan; in fact, I kind of loathe sports. Except for baseball. I don’t watch regular season Phillies games on TV but I like going to games at our park, and you bet your ass I watch when it’s the postseason.

The Phillies are one of the few really good memories I have of my dad. Even though I was only 5 when the Phils won the series in 1980, I remember watching the games with my dad. I remember that he taught me the names of all the players and all of their numbers and positions. It makes me smile.

So tonight, after dinner, I ate a green popsicle and settled down to watch game 1 of the World Series. GO PHILS! Beat the Yankees!

The Routine

The Routine

On a scale from 1-10, with 1 being Cujo and 10 being Lassie, I’d say Basil is a 6. It’s a recent change, he was a 4 at best until a few months ago when he finally started to listen to us. It only took three and a half years. Maybe it’s just a phase, but I’m milking it for all it’s worth.

The thing is, we’re pretty sure he’s got OCD, and we’ve realized that the best way to get him to behave is to stick to a routine. When he was a puppy, he would get in the way while we got ready for work, so Aaron and I came up with our morning routine, which is:

1. I wake up at 7am, take Basil out to do his dirty business.

2. I come back inside, wake Aaron up and he takes Basil into the living room where they snuggle on the couch and fall asleep while I shower and get ready for work.

3. I finish at around 8am, and then I take Aaron’s place on the couch while he gets ready for work.

This way, we still get to sleep a bit more each morning and Basil doesn’t eat our shoes or whatever while we’re getting dressed. And my morning snuggle with the Baz is usually the best part of my day.

Oh, and the afghan? Aaron’s grandmother made it years ago, and Basil owns it now. He likes to burrow inside of it and fall asleep, and he won’t settle down without it. OCD, I tells ya!

This is my badass rocker face.

It would’ve looked even better if I had makeup on. Like smudgy black eyeliner and blood red lips. But I was getting dressed this morning and when I pulled this stripey tunic it messed up my hairs and I felt like I kind of looked like a snotty hipster rocker chick. Then I remembered that I wore this shirt a couple of days ago so I changed.

In which I try to get over one of my biggest fears

Mon, 10/26/2009 - 8:06AM by Whiplash 0 Comments - 4 Views

I wish that I was imaginative enough to come up with this idea myself, but alas, I am not. I am totally biting this from The Daily Sabs. But here I go: I’m starting a daily self-portrait blog.

The thing is, when I was young and skinny and fresh-faced, I was so damned photogenic. I actually looked better in photos than I did in person. But now I’m older and bigger and my skin is looser and duller, and I am basically terrified of getting in front of the camera.

So this is how I’m going to overcome my fear of this side of the camera. My photo skills are seriously lacking so hopefully I’ll gain some knowledge for the other side of the camera as well.

In order to make things a bit easier on me, I may be use Photoshop, Picnik, etc. on the more unflattering pics. I won’t make myself skinner or anything, just blurry. Baby steps, people.

When we first moved into our apartment, I had all of these lofty decorating ideas. Unfortunately, 3 and a half years later, we’re still living in something hardly nicer than a college dorm room.  This is a piece of fabric that I bought at Ikea and tacked above the bed. I think I still like it; maybe I’ll get it framed or something. But probably not.
